BRACED UNION THROWS WEIGHT BEHIND SEN. AKPABIO FOR SENATE PRESIDENT; CALLS ON PRESIDENT TINUBU TO APPOINT BRACED INDIGENES IN STRATEGIC CABINET POSITIONS

_ADVOCATES NEWLY INAUGURATED SOUTH-SOUTH GOVERNORS TO PARLEY WITH BU ON DEVELOPMENT OF THE REGION_

_CONDEMNS RECENT BIGOT STATEMENT OF EL- RUFAI DESCRIBING IT AS DIVISIVE AND UNWARRANTED_*

BRACED UNION, a socio-cultural cum political pressure group comprising members across the six states of the South-South geo-political region, has thrown its weight in full support for the Senate Presidency of Senator Godswill Akpabio.

Rising from a crucial virtual national congress over the weekend, presided by the National President of the BRACED UNION (BU), High Chief Monday Wehere (JP) and General Secretary, Comrade Chris Udi, the group commends the national leadership of the All Progressives’ Congress (APC) for backing Senator Akpabio for the Senate presidency by zoning it to the South South Zone.

The BU congress deliberated on other issues of concern to the region as members maintained that Senator Akpabio is the most qualified from the region for the presidency as he is the only ranking Senator from the South South in the ruling party hence his choice is a step in the right direction.

The group calls on all Senators from the South-South region to rally round the Senator Akpabio’s bid irrespective of party affiliations, as this is the first time the Senate Presidency Seat is being officially zoned to the region as we must not allow this opportunity to slip through our fingers.

According to High Chief Wehere, “it’s the turn of a senator from the South-South, and I, on behalf of the BU,  urge Senators across board in the PDP, LP and other minority party in the Red Chambers to support Senator Akpabio as it is in the interest of our region to do so and not party interest.’

Furthermore, the BU group condemns the recent statement credited to the immediate past governor of Kaduna State, Mallam El-Rufai, justifying the Muslim-Muslim ticket as it described such as statements as divisive and it should be condemned as we all people of one nation irrespective of our cultural and religious diversities.

President Wehere calls on newly inaugurated Governors of the South-South States to rekindle the BRACED Commission as this is one way development of the region can be accelerated seamlessly.

The BU helmsman lauded the initiative of the Niger Delta Development Commission (NDDC) to begin the regional railway project linking all states of the South-South as a worthwhile venture as they call for the speedy implementation of the success plan by the Federal Government for Lagos-Calabar Rail way project to link the region to the rest of the nation for economic growth.

BU is optimistic that the government not President Tinubu shall carry the South South along as it is the first time that the rulling party has gathered so much votes and support including winning a state from the region in the last Presidential election and as such the region deserves to get critical positions in the Tinubu cabinet to give sons and daughters of the oil-rich region a sense of belonging.

The BU congress expressed readiness to work with the National Government of President Tinubu to fast track development in the South-South region as the further call on President Tinubu to expedite work on the Ogoni clean up exercise which was been stalled  as this shall give the Ogonis and by extension bpeople of the South-South region a sense of belonging in the Nigerian nation.
