Customary Court Approved For Úpāta

One of the policy thrust of the Úpāta Traditional Council is for the judiciary to take justice closer to the people, and ensuring that all arms of government are located in the Kingdom. This is for effective and quick dispensation of justice and development.

The recent approval for Úpāta Customary Court is in tandem with the overall policy thrust which includes plans to nip in the bud the issue of insecurity in the area.

In line with the policy thrust, the Rivers State Government has approved the setting up of a Customary Court at Edeoha, the administrative headquarters of the Upata people.

Chief Registrar of the Customary Court of Appeal, Barr. Jude Onyeche in the company of other officials, today inspected facilities at Edeoha ahead of the inauguration of the Court.

The Team was received by the Úpāta Monarch, Dr Felix Otuwaikpo, fnipr and other members of the Council.

The Monarch is confident that the judiciary will remain independent, fair and efficient in its delivery of justice to the good people of Úpāta Kingdom and all others. And without doubt, it is expected that the judiciary will carry out its dispensary of justice with utmost diligence and integrity.

The judiciary is the corner stone of all democracies, ensuring every citizen is treated fairly. In turn, we will provide the necessary environment and infrastructure to ensure the efficient and effective functioning of the Court.

Equally, the Palace congratulates Osisi Upadhi Solomon as the best graduating student in the University of Port Harcourt. An uncommon feat that deserves our applause. The Upata Traditional Council will formally receive Osisi on March 9th, 2024 at Edeoha Town.
