~Advocates More Investment in Education

In recorgnition for his genuine contributions to Education in Ekpeye ethnic nation, the Orashi region and Rivers State at large the National Union of Polythechnic and Monothechnic of Nigeria [NUPAMSON] Rivers State Chapter on Saturday confered an Award of Honour to Engr. Prince Uzodhu Michael, the Executive Director and Founder Uzodhu Michael Foundation.
The NUPAMSON delegation is drawn from the Rivers state Polytechnic Bori, Elechi Amadi Polytechnic Rumuola, Centenary College of Health Science and Technology Rumuji and Rivers State College of Health sciences & Technology, Port Harcourt.
Presenting the award the leader of the delegation Mr. Nwibana Barisuka extol the good virtues of Prince Uzodhu Michael over his concerted efforts in supporting the students’ community in Rivers state and for sponsoring education and scholarship programs for indigent students in his region who cannot afford education especially in Ekpeye, the Orashi region and Rivers State at large.
The United Kingdom based philanthropist Prince Uzodhu Michael has over the years through his Foundation continue to sponsor education through his UMF scholarship scheme for indigent students in Rivers State and improving the welfare of the less privileged in the community.
Receiving the award of honour from the students community in his Port Harcourt residence, Prince Uzodhu Michael said he appreciates the gesture and is encouraged more in the delivery of the vision of his foundation which is geared towards the promotion of the social welfare of individuals and communities in Rivers State and Nigeria at large.
Speaking about the growing moral decadence and youth restiveness in the communities which has resulted to insecurity in the Nigeria society, he advocated the “Root-cause approach” in tackling the menace by first identifying the root causes of the problem in order to proffer the appropriate and sustainable solution.
“The problem is deep-rooted and must be tackled from its foundation.
“The solution to be proffered must be sustainable as well”, he noted.
Michael who identified poverty, unemployment and lack of qaulity education as causative factors of insecurity and youth restiveness in Nigeria said education is the panecea and bedrock for sustainable development towards tackling and reducing crime and insecurity in the state and across the nation.
“Only an educated mind who can fend for himself can think right and clearly.
“Rather than arming the youths with guns arm them with education” he noted.
He called for more budgeting for education and charged stakeholders across board to invest more in the education of the youths as the only way to guarantee a brighter future of the youths and salvage the nation.
