Concerned Ekpeye Youths Demand Justice Over the Killing of SP Bako-Urge the Police To Leave No Stone Unturned in the Investigation to Unravel His Killers and Their Sponsors
~Urge Police to Be Professional and Thorough with Investigation
~Calls for Setup of Local Vigilante Outfit to Support Security Agencies
Ekpeye Youths under the aegis of “Concerned Ekpeye Youths Forum in Ahoada East and West LGAs in Rivers state, Nigeria on Friday, 22nd September, 2023 matched in thier numbers in a Peace Walk to the Police Headquarters in Port Harcourt to commiserate with the force and to condemn the gruesome murder of SP Bako Agbashim in Ekpeye land.
Until his assassination SP Bako was the Divisional Police Officer, DPO of the Ahoada Division of the Police force in Rivers state.
SP Bako a gallant and exceptional Police Officer took the war against cultism and criminality to the camps of the hoodlums and dislodged them, but unfortunately on a fateful day while returning from an operation in the area, he was ambushed by the hoodlums and was gruesomely murdered and beheaded and his body parts dismembered by the group who identified themselves as Icelanders in a viral video.
The barbaric act by the assailants has recieved local, national and international condemnation from Ekpeye and non- Ekpeye people home and abroad.
In a swift response to the incident the Rivers state Governor Sir Siminilaye Fubara ordered the Arrest and declared the leader of the Iceland Group Gift David Okpara A.K.A “2 Baba” wanted over the heinous crime and further placed a N100,000,000 (One Hundred Million naira) bounty on him. The Police force has also declared the suspect wanted and urge the public to provide useful information about the whereabouts of the hoodlums.
Governor Fubara also suspended the traditional Ruler of the area HRM. Eze Cassidy Ikegbidi for alleged complicity.
Worried by the sad development and numerous killings in Ekpeye land the Concerned Ekpeye Youths urged the Police to ensure killers of SP Bako and others are brought to book to save Ekpeye from Security degeneracy.
Speaking one of the Conveners Moses Ugwu who expressed disappointment and bemoaned failure of Elected politicians to arrest insecurity in the area urged the Police to ensure no stone is left unturned towards bringing to book the culprits.
Reading the Group’s formal address, former Vice President of Ekpeye Youth Congress Randy Charles Chimaji expressed deep condolences to the Police and on behalf of the group condemned in strong terms the barbaric act and urged the Police to ensure there is no Sacred cow in bringing to justice anyone related to the killing of the super Police officer.
Dissociating Ekpeye Youths from the Satanic act, Randy called on the Police to end the killings in Ekpeye land saying Ekpeye youths are noble and not criminals.
Urging the Police to extend its operations beyond Ahoada East LGA, to Ahoada West axis he called on the Governor and stakeholders to prevail on Ahoada East and West LGA Chairmen to setup local vigilante outfits like OSPAC to assist the security agencies in fighting insecurity locally to bring the hoodlums to book.
Randi Charles in his address also urged the Police to be professional to free those held by the Police who may not be connected to the incident.
Recall that some top traditional rulers from the area are being held by the Police.
Also Speaking, Esedi Joe urged the Police to act quickly to bring the culprits to justice as the lives of residents in the area are at stake, especially the stigma caused by the incident to genuine Ekpeye Youths in and outside Rivers state.
