Flood: An Address Presented by Eze Ekpeye Logbo 111 at the Inauguration of 2022 Ekpeye Flood Committee

AN ADDRESS BY HIM, EZE SIR KELVIN NGOZI ANUGWO PhD. THE EZE EKPEYE LOGBO 111 OF EKPEYE LAND ON THE OCCASION OF INAUGURATION OF EKPEYE FLOOD COMMITTEE ON FRIDAY OCTOBER 14, 2022 AT EKPEYE HOUSE, AHOADA

Protocols

Following the flood disaster that ravaged tEkpeye Ethnic Nation which has rendered the good people of Ekpeye Ethnic Nation homeless, several properties and farm produce Worth millions of naira destroyed, I, His Imperial majesty Eze Sir Amb Kelvin Ngozi Anugwo, the Eze Ekpeye Logbo III in conjunction with members of the Eze Ekpeye Logbo In Council, Ekpeye Council of Traditional Rulers and Chiefs, Uzugbani Ekpeye, Ekpeye Youths, Women leaders and indeed all opinion leaders in Ekpeye Ethnic Nation have on this 14th day of October,2022 inaugurate the Ekpeye Ethnic Nation Flood Committee, this Committee have the responsibility to rehabilitate and coordinate the distribution of relief materials assigned to them to the victims.

Flood in Ahoada West LGA Rivers state

This Committee is not a profit making committee or a political platform to campaign for any political party. Members of this Committee are drawn from the various Igbus that make up the Ekpeye Ethnic Nation. Do you know Ekpeye Ethnic Nation is facing the most difficult time as we experience the global phenomenon of flooding which is due to climate change that has affected over 24 States in our Nation Nigeria and this has been an annual experiences. One of the most prevalent natural disasters in Nigeria is perennial flooding . As we all know, flooding threatens sustainability because flooding negatively affects the economic, health, social life and in deed, the environment.

Flooding constitutes a threat to Ekpeye achieving the global sustainable development goals as the losses during flooding brings set backs to the land.

In 2012, Ekpeye Ethnic Nation experienced the worst flooding recorded in recent history but the flooding of 2022 is higher than that of 2012 which means that the effects of this year’s flooding will tell more on the people of Ekpeye Ethnic Nation negatively, which means that every member of this Committee must be ready to work hard as to reduce the effects of the flooding on our people, during this period we must be our brother’s keepers as everyone is enjoined to accommodate one another, ensure you share what you have with others.

Flood in Ahoada West LGA Rivers state

The committee should urgently raise letters to individuals, Corporate bodies and relevant agencies of government including the Government of Rivers State as to raise money to further assist victims of the affected communities in Ekpeye Land. The committee should sought out Camps for the victims to stay for the periods and give everyone of them adequate care needed. Please, no victim of the flood should be be treated poorly, give them the needed attentions and I know God will help us overcome this trial times.

In addition, this Committee is at liberty to co – opt any person to add to the number as the task is enormous and equally liaise with organizations in achieving the desired goal in the process of this assignment. The members of the Eze Ekpeye Logbo In Council are there to assist when necessary as all hands must be on deck in tackling this challenge.
