A lawyer and human rights activist Reno Omokri has come out to say that the leader of the Proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB Nnamdi Kanu was not a extradited or arrested as claimed by the Nigerian authorities.
Reno who made the clarification on Teusday through his verified Facebook page said he spoke with a top British official but that he would not reveal his source.
“I just spoke with a top UK government source. Nnamdi Kanu was NOT arrested or extradited by the British. According to this official, Kanu was “almost definitely arrested in KENYA” and “it was an illegal detention”. I won’t reveal my source, but I have him on record.
“For those who do not know how these things operate, the United Kingdom is a civilised nation that is governed by the Rule of Law. No one, no matter how wanted, can be arrested and extradited without extradition hearings before a court, especially when that person is a British citizen.
“There are Nigerians who are currently fighting their extradition to Nigeria in court in the UK. They cannot leave the UK on their own volition or on the request of the Nigerian government until their hearings are exhausted. If they lose at the court of first instance, they have a right of appeal.
“I repeat, Nnamdi Kanu was not arrested or extradited by the British government”, He noted.
On the insinuation from some qaurters that the IPOB leader came into Nigeria on his volition and surrendered himself for arrest to the Nigerian authorities, Reno said it’s false and not true.
“Also, it is a lie that he boarded a plane and came to Nigeria by himself. That is just propaganda”.
On Teusday the Attorney General and Minister of Justice Abubakar Malami had briefed the press wherein he disclosed that the IPOB leader was intercepted and arrested through a collaboration of security agencies.
Malami also disclosed that a federal high court in Abuja has also granted the federal government’s application to commence a accelerated hearing on Nnamdi Kanu’s suite on 26th July 2021 as against the December date.

The Federal high court in Abuja also ordered that the IPOB leader be remanded in the custody of the Department of State Security (DSS) pending 26th July when the court will reconvene for his trial to commence.
The federal government of Nigeria had arrested and charged Nnamdi Kanu on a suite bordering on charges of terrorism, treasonable felony, unlawful possession of firearms, management of an unlawful society and other charges.
He was granted bail on medical grounds in April 2017, breached the bail conditions and refused to return to court after he fled the country.
